Bio


Thiona joined the McKinstry Company on 30 November 1988 in a support role and quickly discovered she had a keen interest in the law. Thiona studied law part-time at the University of Strathclyde whilst continuing to work with the firm. Thiona graduated Bachelor of Law from the University of Strathclyde in 1999 completed the Diploma in Legal Practice in 2000, embarked upon and completed her Legal Traineeship with the firm in 2002. Thiona progressed through the firm to become a Partner, a position which she has held since 2007. 


Thiona has advised clients over many years in the areas of matrimonial, conveyancing and private client. Thiona now concentrates and her expertise lies in private client having worked in this area of law in various guises over the past three decades. Thiona is Head of Private Client overseeing all aspects of preparing Wills, Trusts, Inheritance Tax planning, Powers of Attorney, Guardianship and administration of estates. 


Thiona is a “people person” and has a passion for ensuring their affairs are in order and where they are not, resolving issues which arise for them. The late Professor Sinclair said, when Thiona was embarking upon her journey in the law, “my dear you have the university of life” and that as a bedrock equips Thiona to advise clients on the aspect of their affairs in which she is involved and, in the particular area of private client, whether that is a person wanting to put in place a Will or Power of Attorney, concerns about loved ones being able to care for themselves in the future or indeed care costs and winding up estates.


The area in which Thiona advises touches everyone and she is able to advise and guide them through the journey of ensuring their affairs are in order and thereby giving peace of mind. 


Thiona enjoys walking, yoga, travel and spending time with her family.
