Bio
Debbie is Head of our Private Client Department and also manages our Girvan office. Debbie specialises in advising individuals and their families in relation to succession planning, asset protection, inheritance tax mitigation, Wills, Powers of Attorney, Trusts, executries and setting up charities.
Debbie works with many farmers and family businesses. Coming from a small town in Dumfries & Galloway and living on a farm combined with her expertise in family business succession issues, she has a greater understanding of the complexities that exist within the family business when assisting clients with their personal matters.
Debbie trained at Maclay, Murray & Spens LLP and has worked in both Glasgow and in Edinburgh before joining The McKinstry Company in 2016. She has tutored Private Client on the Post Graduate Diploma at both the Graduate School of Law and the University of Glasgow and authored articles for the STEP journal.
Debbie attended the University of Glasgow and also studied law at the Universite d’Auvergne in Clermont-Ferrand during her third year. After graduating she spent two years in Rome teaching English and speaks both Italian and French.
Debbie is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and holds the Advanced Certificate in Advising Family Businesses.
