Bio

Debbie manages our Girvan office and provides advice and assistance to individuals and families in the South West of Scotland in relation to the preparation of wills, living wills and powers of attorney. Her particular expertise is advising on estate planning, inheritance tax mitigation and succession issues. She also sets up partnership agreements, deals with the administration of estates including contentious estates, and the setting up and administering of trusts. She can also advise on farm sales and purchases and residential sales and purchases.

Debbie works with many farmers and family businesses. Coming from a small town in Dumfries & Galloway and living on a farm combined with her expertise in family business succession issues she has a greater understanding of the complexities that exist within the family business when assisting clients with their personal matters.

Debbie has also tutored Private Client on the Post Graduate Diploma at both the Glasgow Graduate School of Law and the University of Glasgow.

Having lived in Rome for a number of years, Debbie also studied Law at the Université d’Auvergne in Clermont-Ferrand – as a result, she speaks both Italian and French. She can also speak a bit of Spanish, thanks to travelling around various Central and South American countries, including walking the Inca trail. She managed to convince her husband that the cattle/steak in Argentina were worth a trip and is now planning more trips to South America.

A keen runner, Debbie has competed in 10Ks and half marathons, even completing the Rome Marathon. This now comes in handy during lambing time chasing after ewes.

Living the good life, Debbie has an extensive garden, which continues to expand on a yearly basis. She grows her own veg, keeps hens and is planning on creating an orchard.
