Main Biography

Karen has recently joined the McKinstry Company, at our Ayr office, as a Trainee Solicitor. After spending 5 years studying at the University of Aberdeen, Karen decided it was time to move back to her home town, Ayr, where she could be closer to her family and friends.

Whilst at University, Karen discovered she was particularly interested in the Law of Succession when studying this subject at Honours level. So, intrigued by this area of the law, Karen decided to write 10,000 words on the formalities surrounding wills in her dissertation. She is now building upon her skills and knowledge within this sector of the legal world as she works alongside Thiona and her team within the private client department.

During her studies, Karen dedicated a lot of her time to volunteering for several organisations. Whether it was spending time with elderly people to combat against isolation, advising women in prison of their housing and employment rights or supporting family members struggling to contact their children after a parental separation, Karen was always willing to offer help and give advice even in difficult situations, making her a perfect fit for our private client team.

When not in work, Karen enjoys keeping active. In the past she has raised money for local charities, like the Ayrshire Hospice, whilst competing in events such as the Edinburgh Marathon Festival and Tough Mudder. Aside from this, Karen loves to spend time with her family, especially her nieces and nephew, and her brother’s dog Barney.
