Graeme McKinstry Chairman View Graeme's Profile

Graeme founded The McKinstry Company in 1984, after successfully negotiating an earn-out from his previous partnership. He has overseen the development and consolidation of the practice from a predominantly litigation based service, to a thriving High Street firm across several legal sectors. His primary role now is Chairman, undertaking strategic review and development, while holding the Partners to account.

Outside of McKinstry, Graeme has a Practice Management Consultancy where he focuses on management issues in small to medium sized legal firms. His business acumen and experience in the commercial world was recognised in 2015, when he was appointed President of Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

In his spare time, Graeme can regularly be seen looking for his ball in the gorse of rough at Royal Troon or Turnberry Golf Course.

Thiona McQuiston Partner View Thiona's Profile

Thiona is Head of our Private Client Department where she is involved in all aspects of property, asset protection, Powers of Attorney, Guardianship, Wills and winding up estates.  

Having joined TMC almost three decades ago in a support role, Thiona went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Law from the University of Strathclyde in 1999.  When embarking upon her Law degree, she was told by the late Professor Sinclair “My dear, you have the University of Life” and that as a bedrock equips Thiona to advise clients on the aspects of their affairs in which she is involved.

Thiona enjoys walking, yoga, travel and spending time with her husband and family, including her dog Molly.

Frances Evans Partner View Frances' Profile

Frances joined Team TMC as a Partner in 2017, and heads up the Property and Business Law team. Having trained at a large Glasgow firm, Frances has worked in commercial property since 2000. She is highly experienced in a wide range of commercial property work, including investment acquisitions and disposals, leasing and secured lending. She acts for a broad range of clients, including landlords, tenants, developers and industry.

Frances enjoys spending time with her family and friends, and is an avid reader.

Robert Honeyman Partner View Robert's Profile

Robert is Head of our Litigation Department, where he oversees all contentious cases. His remit includes employment, contract disputes, commercial court work and all aspects of personal injury litigation. With extensive experience of handling cases in the Employment Tribunal, Sheriff Court and Court of Session, Robert was recognised by the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers and the Law Society of Scotland in 2010, as a Specialist in Personal Injury Litigation.

Having joined the firm in 1997, Robert is well respected among clients and peers, and is widely regarded as an organised, proactive and diligent litigator, who will go the extra mile to get the best results for his clients.

Robert is a keen golfer (although not reflected in his handicap) and enjoys running. He also supports a number of charitable and community projects, and is Past President of Largs Cronies Burns Club.

Debbie Dunlop Partner View Debbie's Profile

Based in our Girvan office, Debbie is a Partner who is highly experienced in Private Client work, particularly in the agricultural and farming sectors. She used to enjoy travelling the world, but now married to a farmer, she spends her weekends in wellies, feeding cattle or on the back of a quad bike. Debbie is also a member of the Agricultural Law Association.

Having lived in Rome for a number of years, Debbie also studied Law at the Université d’Auvergne in Clermont-Ferrand – as a result, she is fluent in both Italian and French. She can also speak a bit of Spanish, thanks to travelling around various Central and South American countries, including walking the Inca trail. She has managed to convince her husband that the cattle in Argentina will be worth a look at some time soon!

A keen runner, Debbie has competed in 10Ks and half marathons, even completing the Rome Marathon. This now comes in handy during lambing time chasing after ewes.

Colin Duck Solicitor View Colin's Profile

Colin is a member of our Litigation team experienced in all aspects of civil and commercial litigation, specialising in particular in debt recovery, contract disputes, property litigation, employment law and family law. Colin joined us having worked in a similar role for a well-respected Glasgow Firm for 9 years followed by 18 months experiencing life in Nova Scotia, Canada.

Colin takes an honest and commercially sensible approach to dispute resolution, always keeping an eye on the bigger picture and the client’s end goal.

Previously a keen rugby player for Stewartry, Watsonians and West of Scotland, Colin played age-group rugby for Scotland, captained the West of Scotland first team to promotion in 2007 and later joined the committee however his age now dictates that he is restricted to coaching, touch rugby and not more than a couple of over-35 games per year. He also enjoys travelling and other sports including football, fishing and golf.

Rosslyn Fowler Solicitor View Rosslyn's Profile

Ros joined our private Client Team in 2018 having previously trained and worked in Glasgow for 11 years.   She obtained an MA(Hons) in Politics from the University of Glasgow then worked for several years with the Scottish Court Service primarily in Edinburgh & Stirling.   Enjoying the Court environment, she returned to university to undertake the accelerated LLB at Strathclyde University. Upon graduating she initially specialised in litigation matters but developed a keen interest in Adult with Incapacity work which led to her moving into the Private Client field permanently which she enjoys immensely.

Outside of work, Ros has 2 young daughters who occupy most of her time!  When she can, she tries to get some me-time with hot yoga.  Ros is also an advocate and fundraiser for the National Deaf Children’s Society, a charity very close to her heart.

Kirsty McDonald Solicitor View Kirsty's Profile

Kirsty trained and worked in two long established Ayrshire firms before joining us in 2016. Part of our Property team, she deals primarily with residential transactions, while also liaising with our Private Client department, to support any property aspects of their work.

Kirsty loves spending time with her horse, Sprite and Shetland pony, Elmo. When not out competing locally with the horses, she can be found around the rugby pitches supporting Glasgow Warriors and the Scottish Rugby Team.

With a keen interest in travelling, Kirsty most recently visited Dubai, Mauritius and Venice. This summer she will be travelling down the west coast of the United States from San Francisco, before ending up in Vegas.

Laurie Anderson Solicitor View Laurie's Profile

Laurie is a member of our Litigation team dealing with all aspects of civil and commercial litigation, with a particular interest in employment law.

Laurie has appeared in Employment Tribunals across Scotland and in front of the Employment Appeal Tribunal. In addition to this Laurie regularly advises on settlement agreements and HR issues along with non-contentious matters such as employment contracts and handbooks.

Laurie is also involved in civil and commercial litigation matters and strives to provide his clients with the best outcome.

Laurie joined us in June 2019 having worked previously in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Outside of law, Laurie is a keen golfer when time permits and enjoys spending time with his young family.
