A law firm for life

Care Home Planning

As you grow older, life presents new challenges and new considerations. With life expectancy on the rise and people living longer, care home planning becomes ever more important.  It is extremely worthwhile having these discussions with your family so that they understand your needs and wishes, as well as the financial situation.

We understand that these are difficult discussions to have.  However, we are experts in private client law and care for the elderly.  If you have any questions about care home planning, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Call us today on 01292 281711 or complete our online contact form.  Our friendly, expert team will be delighted to take your call and support you through the planning process.

Key Considerations

Care Home Fees

One of the first issues to consider is how your care will be funded.  To understand how this is likely to operate, you will need to know what capital you have.  We can assist you in valuing your property and assets, understanding your capital, and translating this into possible options available for care home costs.  We can also guide you through the options that are available for elderly care in Scotland.  This varies and it is important that you understand what public funding may be available to you.  Again, we are experts in this area of law and can help explore potential issues with you.

Appointing a Power of Attorney

Another key consideration is whether you should put in place a power of attorney, to make sure that the right decisions can be made about your care even if you can no longer make them.  A power of attorney is a legal document which allows someone to act on your behalf when you are not able to make decisions about your own affairs.

A power of attorney can deal with financial matters and/or welfare matters.  This means that your attorney would have the ability to make decisions about your care, including how this is financed and how you are looked after.  As experts in this area, we can explain the process to you and help you make the right decision.
