Our Expertise

Settlement agreements can be a useful means of bringing an employment dispute to an end. When done correctly, a settlement agreement can be beneficial to both the employer and the employee. It is a legal requirement that employees receive legal advice in relation to a settlement agreement, so if your employer has offered you a settlement agreement you should instruct a solicitor to look at the agreement for you. Our lawyers will ensure that the offer you are given is fair and in your best interests. Where it is not, we can negotiate on your behalf for more favourable terms.

To discuss your specific circumstances with our expert team, contact us today by calling 01292 281711 or complete our online enquiry form and we will get back to you right away. We look forward to hearing from you.

How Settlement Agreements Work

A settlement agreement is often used to bring an employment dispute or the employment relationship to an end. Normally offered by an employer, a settlement agreement allows an employee to waive certain rights to bring a claim in return for a financial award from the employer.  The amount offered in a settlement agreement will greatly depend on the circumstances leading up to the offer, but an experienced solicitor will be able to advise as to whether the compensation offered is fair.

Furthermore, the settlement agreement may also include other conditions that are favourable to the employee, such as a good reference or a preferable termination date. Where these are not offered in the original settlement agreement, your lawyer can negotiate these terms on your behalf.

We also offer advice, representation and drafting services to employers looking to offer a settlement agreement to one employee, or even a group of employees. We know that letting staff members go can be difficult under any circumstances, so we strive to make the process as straightforward as possible.
